In 2015 I said - I'll oppose developments that threaten our enviroment, while remembering we need affordable housing in rural areas. I'll work with farmers, residents and Park Authorities on the sustainable management of Exmoor. I will always stand up for our vital farming economy and our coastal communities. I'll safeguard our coastline, as i did in opposing the Atlantic Array. All the time championing North Devon and backing tourism in every way I can including calling for a cut in VAT across the industry.
2017 - I have been one of the longest-serving members of the House of Commons Environmental Audit Select Committee. The group has persuaded the government to introduce tough new rules on micro-plastic pollution blighting our coasts and oceans. For the rural economy, I have worked closely with North Devon's farming community, and successfully lobbied the government to protect farm subsidies beyond Brexit.
